The basic of English
Lesson: THE ALPHABATS. WORD. SENTENCE
1.     ALPHABET: Ordered set of letters of a language. Written sign for sound in speech. Written language is made up of letters which stand for sounds. The letters of any language are called its alphabets.  A letter itself has no meaning but all the letters i.e., A to Z, are called alphabets. The English alphabets contain twenty-six letters.

2.     LETTERS: In English, there are two types of alphabets, capital letters and small letters. The letters “A, E, I, O, U” are called vowel letters. Vowels are used to complete a word by adding more letters. Letters are united to form words. Like boy, girl, pen, hand.

3.       WORD: A set of two or more than two letters is called a word.

4.     SENTENCE: A group of words which conveys a complete meaning or idea is called a sentence. Every new sentence beings with a capital letter. It always contains a “finite verb” Sentence makes a complete sense. For example ,
  • I read a book.
  • He is a man and she is a women.
  • This is copy and that is a pen.

5.       PHARASE: A phrase is a group of words that makes sense but not complete sense. It has no “Finite verb”. Phrase itself has no meanings. (Like)  a pen, a dog a boy.

6.       PARTS OF SENTENCE: Every sentence consists of two parts: The subject (the meaning part) and the predicate (the starting part).

(a)    Subject: Subject of a sentence is a person or thing, doing some action, or about something is told. There are some pronoun are also use in sentences mentioned under here.

  • First Person: The speaker: The person who speaks something.

  • First person singular” I, my, me

  • First person plural “we, our, us”

(b)   Second person: The listener, who listens to what a speaker says

  •                   Second person singular: “you, your, you”

  •                   Second person plural “you, your, you”

(c)      Third person: Who is not present and about whom something is said

  •                   Third person singular” he, she, it”

  •                   Third person plural “They, their, the”

7.       PREDICATE: The part of a sentence which tells something about the subject is called predicate. (or) The word which says something about the subject.

8.       OBJECT: It is word to which action of the subject passes on.

(a)   1st Person: I,my,we,me,our,us,mine.

(b)   2nd Person: You, your, yours.

        (c)   3rd Person: He,she,it,its,his,him,her,they,theur,them.
